Summary Post: China

December 7th, 2012 by DC

I spent almost two months in China- quite a bit of it off the bike. It was an eye-opening experience in the world’s most populous country.

Here are the numbers!

  • Days in country: 58
  • Days riding: 16 (And a few more days of a little bit of riding to get to and from trains etc)
  • Kilometres ridden: 1405km
  • Running total (nearest 10km): 10560km
  • Accom cost: ~¥2260 ($NZ452) (Less than $NZ8 a night)
  • Other costs: ~¥8166 ($NZ1633) (This was pushed higher than expected because of train costs ($NZ300) and entry to tourist sites ($70). And of course the scam of the tea ceremony..)
  • Favourite food/drink: Street-vendor dumplings and tasty BBQ (especially the tasty veges..)
  • 3 nights on trains, 44 nights in hostels, and 12 in hotels
  • Favourite photos (a few because it was a couple of months):

Anyone need a seat?
Sun and Moon Pagoda in Guilin
Road and a lake I rode past
Sunset from my hostel roof
Horse Parking
On the trail
Bells..
Food market in Lijiang
Some of the road
Little Chinese woman carrying corn stalks
This little piggie went to market..
Looking down the valley from the pass! So nice!!!
Tea plantations
Row of Dudes with drums
Inside the gardens

And my map of my route in China (Cyan is cycling, Green is the train, dark blue the boat, brown is driving and red is walking):
