Summary Post: Netherlands

Right, it’s time for another summary post! This time the Netherlands!

I spent 2 weeks in the Netherlands, and really enjoyed it. It was a pretty social country for me- riding with my friend Hilary for a few days, then staying with another friend Tina for a few days as well. The riding was easy, if wet, but still enjoyable.

Another highlight was finally finding a set of scales and discovering that I’ve lost 20kg so far on the trip!

Here it is by the numbers!

  • Days in country: 15
  • Days riding: 9
  • Kilometres ridden: 693 km (longest day 113km)
  • Running total (nearest 10km): 4510km
  • Accom cost: ~140 Euro (Mix of hostels and free accomodation)
  • Other costs: ~215 Euro (Not sure why this is quite high, just an expensive country for food I guess.)
  • Busy roads cycled on: None- amazing cycle infrastructure!
  • Flats: One.
  • Days riding with a friend: 3 from Groningen to Amsterdam
  • Favourite food/drink: Syrup Waffels, followed by Orange and strawberry juice.
  • Favourite supermarket of the trip: Albert Heijn- great chain.
  • 4 nights in a campground (including one free one),  6 nights in hostels and 4 nights with Friends or Warmshowers hosts.
  • Favourite photo: Hilary on a cycle path in HDR.  I love the textures on this, and it was a great day of riding!
